To get the best results using our new clear dry ink effect, you need to have an understanding of the total ink weight limits of the press - by using the clear dry ink over an area with a lower total ink weight, more clear dry ink can be used.
The total allowable ink weight running through the Color 1000 Press is 260%, allowing for a maximum of 240% CMYK and an additional 20% for clear dry ink.
The clear % is reduced as the CMYK total ink weight increases. To achieve a 100% clear dry ink layer the CMYK would have to be ≤160%. If CMYK total ink weight was 170% then the clear dry ink maximum would be approx 90%, and so on.
For example, a solid box of red consisting of 100% magenta and 100% yellow would only allow for a maximum of 60% clear dry ink - 100% (M) + 100% (Y) + 60% (clear dry ink) = 260% (total ink weight).
